Notebook (101 sections)

Notebook consists of 101 short films (an average duration of 20 seconds each) and documents 101 events which unfold on the same constructed tabletop in the artists’ studio. Like the artists other major works from the past five years (Twenty Six (Drawing and Falling Things); Hundredweight), Notebook considers the relation between a physical event and a formal composition. It uses humour, lightness of touch and physical dexterity to propose a language of video which borrows much from Nauman, Abramovic and performance art of the ‘70s but extends the concerns of those works to consider its own relation to formalist aesthetics and theoretics developed around painting and drawing practice. In doing so, Wood and Harrison’s work transcends its medium. (Commissioned by MIMA)
