Erik Olofsen was born in The Netherlands, in 1970. Graduated from the Gerrrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1998. He was a resident at the Rijks Academy in Amsterdam, the Chinese European Art Centre in Xiamen, China and Bilbao Arte, in Spain. In January 2008 will spend 2 months at La Chambre Blanche in Quebec, Canada.
His installation works have been shown in various countries, and usually involve different media such as sculpture, architectural elements, video, photographs and sound. He also introduced new technology to his artistic work, such as industrial robots and high-speed digital cameras. In 2003 won the prestigious Dutch ‘Prix de Rome’ with the installation ‘Remotely Here’, and in 2005 his installation work ‘Divine methods / Hidden motives’ won the Vidalife 8.0, art & artificial life international prize based in Madrid, Spain. His video ‘In Places’ won a prize at the Media Forum, Moscow International Film Festival in 2006, and the video installation ‘Drives’ got a special mention of the jury in the Japan Media Art Festival in 2007.
