Su Tomesen is a visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. In 2007 she obtained her MA in Fine Art at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.

Her context-based work consists of videos, installations and interventions. She travels a lot and curiosity is her motor. She produce art that has a local connection. Her videos relate to situations in public space. Her installations and interventions evolve out of researching the context where the work is presented. In these works the presence of, and interaction with the audience play a role. Tomesen considers art as a form of research and the artist as a researcher. The essence is to get to know the local discourse and the different narratives, historical preconceptions, social and political topics. Her focus often lies on the spontaneous city culture. As a fresh and naïve player with a sincere hands-on mentality she infiltrates in existing structures of a community and ask questions.

In 2009 Su Tomesen did an artist-in-residence of three months at Makan House in Amman, Jordan, supported by The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (BKVB) in Amsterdam. BKVB also supported her work in Port-au-Prince, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires for the video project ‘City One Minutes’. Early 2010 she spent three months at the arts space The Bag Factory in Johannesburg, doing an artist-in-residence supported by the National Arts Council South Africa (NAC) in Johannesburg.
