Working along the interstices of fine art and graphic design, in addition to possessing a strong collaborative drive, Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain have developed a practice based on the playful displacement of meaning. On the one hand, their imagery is immediately familiar to us since it belongs, to a large extent, to the everyday language of information technology. On the other hand, this immediacy is perhaps deceitful, because if the language of the information age becomes their tool, the couples wit allows them to avoid the seduction of the medium. Rather than relying on the ever more complex use of technology, their work combines visual concision with an impressive erudition that is manifested through a series of layered of cultural references combined with general historical and philosophical associations.
